Sept. 5, 2017
Gary and I spent multiple days loading up the motorhome and then hit the road on Monday, 9-4, making our first stop a mere 1 1/2 hours later at Camp Mills in Apple Valley. We were treated like a king and queen at Camp Mills and we certainly do appreciate the hospitality.
Today we travelled 330 miles to Hurricane, Utah for just a one night stop. We don't unhook our car for the one nighters. Everything went smoothly, temps at and over 100. It was 111 in Hurricane when we arrived (Ugh) I want desperately to get away from this awful heat. I packed lots of long sleeves and have a jacket that needs to be worn - soon!
Our next stop will be near Salt Lake and I was hoping to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsing, but that ended in August. There are organ recitals everyday at noon so maybe we can catch one of those.
No pictures today - uploading was taking way too
long.

August 29, 2017
It is time again, finally, to hit the open road. We are going to point the MoHo north next week. Preparations are underway, the packing will soon
begin and then off we go. Please stay tuned for updates and pictures of our adventures. There is shopping to do and then the load in before our wheels are turning on our mobile home.

Olympic Peninsula National Park
Drove the Hurricane Ridge Road in the park today. Beautiful but foggy at the top so we didnt get pictures of the mountains.
We enjoyed a great dinner in Port Angeles at Michaels Steak and Seafood.
Eugene OR to Sequim WA
Long travel day! Too much for one day but we got it done. I could barely walk once we arrived (very bad knees) but I survived! Mostly uneventful, the way we like it. We were behind a large 5th wheel when the poor guy had a tire on the trailer blow out. Lots of flying debris and a fender cover went floating by but no harm for us. The guy got it off the road quickly and safely.
Our accomodations for the next three nights are in a stunningly gorgeous location but the premises is very outdated. I was hoping for rustic but this is like 60's outdated. But like I said it is all about the location.

Back on the Road!
We are back on the road again! WooHoo! Life threw
us a bit of a bump earlier this year but we are on the other side of that now. We are sans the motorhome but hopefully we can get back to it in October.
It is so blazing hot in SoCal we decided to head north where it is cooler and it actually rains from time to time.
This is Day 2 and it was a long travel day, Sacramento to Eugene OR-470 miles. But it wasnt long we were blessed with cooler temps, beautiful green trees, and sprinkles falling from the sky! Lovely I tell ya, just lovely!!!
Here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure!

October 26, 2015 WE ARE HOME!
Left Quartzsite and headed for home. Ah, yes, California - what a mess. Hot, hot, hot and traffic is just miserable. The only appeal California holds for me these days is my family is there. The more time I spend away from here, the more I want to spend time away from here.
I was very happy to see the grands and they seemed to genuinely be happy to see us. That's always fun and our lil miss is saying so many more words - she actually calls me Mimi now! So awesome. C has grown taller and he is doing really well at his new school.
We got right to work Tuesday unloading the MoHo and Gary and T got it over to the storage yard. Lots of laundry to do and things to tuck away. We've been spending time with the grands and getting reacquainted a bit. Fun stuff for sure.
We will probably stay put now until after the first of the year. Thinking we might go to Sedona Arizona after the first of the year and thinking about plans beyond that as well. So many places to visit!
In summary:
We visited 11 states
Stayed at 17 different campsites
Traveled approx 6500 miles
Saw lots of wildlife, to include moose; elk, big horn sheep, fox, lots of deer, snake, Canadian geese
Saw lots of roadkill (ugh)
Visited with lots of family and friends
Met some new folks
The most beautiful spot was Elk Creek Campground in Grand
Lake, Colorado (where we saw the moose family)
Least favorite was in Kansas (not much happening in Kansas)
We had incredible mild weather - it was windy in Illinois and of
course there was that rain/hail incident in New Mexico.
It was an incredible journey. The MoHo performed very well, considering it was our everything! We have just a couple issues to follow up on, the water pump won't switch on and the antenna handle fell off. So I'd say that's pretty good. She turned a year old while we were out and we really are happy with the brand.
Stay tuned but I won't be blogging regularly, until we hit the road again. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for following along. It's been fun.

Octoer 24/25, 2015 Quartzsite Arizona
We spent two nights in Quartzsite Arizona. We had heard and read a lot about Quartzsite. It's population swells drastically in the winter. Lots of RV Snowbirds and they camp on BLM land so everywhere you look there are RV's. RV Dealers even set up temporary dealerships and there are fields of vendors in tents selling anything you can think of. We were a bit early in the season so there were not a lot of RV's here yet. We checked Yelp for a spot to eat and then went and had breakfast there. Hilarious being the youngest people in the place. The two gentlemen behind us were talking about going into the service in 1953! What? I was born in 1953. Anyway Quartzsite may be a mecca for snowbirds, but I don't imagine we will be back.
The desert is beautiful at sunset and there was a gentle breeze blowing, so it was very comfortable being there. We drove over to Parker to check the Colorado River out, honestly I was surprised at the amount of water. I guess I expected it to be much lower.

October 22, 2015 Rockhound State Park, Deming, New Mexico
We took a beautiful drive out to Rockhound State Park and Spring Canyon. Gary took some fabulous pictures. It was so quiet out there, you could actually hear the birds instead of cars! Imagine that people - there really are places to get away from it all. You could see for miles and miles. At the top of Spring Canyon we could see Interstate 10, which Gary estimates at about 10 miles.
There were cattle "free ranging" along the way. Pretty awesome, this place called New Mexico!

October 21, 2015 Deming New Mexico
Well folks before we started this journey we decided a NOAA Weather Radio was a must because we were heading east where they actually have weather. We have not used that radio in almost 8 weeks but boy we sure pulled it out last night before retiring.
New Mexico's weather changes on a dime. We arrived in a bit of hailstorm, so that should have been our clue I guess. All evening the clouds around us were darkening and we had Weather Alerts scrolling across the television. We had lightning and thunder, a bit of wind, so Gary got the radio set up. About 4:15AM we received the first alert - woke us both up - and almost immediately the storm was upon us. The skies opened and the rain and hail were upon us. I was a bit shook up (to say the least) but they had kept saying all evening there was a low level of risk for a tornado, and the wind wasn't too bad. It was just a "severe" thunderstorm. So I hunkered down in bed and watched from my bedroom window and listened to the plummeting we were getting. Gary had gotten up and listened to the radio, checked his phone weather apps and then just didn't come back to bed. Here he was sitting up front in the passenger seat with the front shade open and watching the skies - in his underwear! Yikes! I would have thought if he was really considering that we might have to leave the MoHo, he may have put his jeans on but no. He came back to bed and we got another alert on the radio. Another severe thunderstorm with large hail in the area. The registration desk at the RV Park told me in case of severe weather we could shelter in the interior portions of the clubhouse. I didn't see a soul out and about or headed that way, so we sat it out. But like I said wind was not a factor and that would really be the big issue for us. The hail may break the air conditioning shrouds or the skylight in the bathroom but as far as we know no damage.
So when we finally got up this morning we had planned to head towards Las Cruces and visit the Old Mesilla Village. So we got ready, tried a local place for breakfast (not so good) and headed east on Interstate 10. Well the clouds along the way were incredible and of course I had Gary snapping away.
We found the plaza of the old village and started walking and exploring. The dark clouds started rolling in. We ducked into a fantastic Mexican restaurant in Old Town, La Posta. Really pretty great food. It had started to sprinkle a bit as we left the restaurant so we ducked into a pottery shop (where the potter herself was) and did some shopping and chatting. We left there and it was sprinkling a little bit more. We entered our address in GPS and headed out to the interstate - O M G! The heavens opened up, the hail was tremendous, pounding on our roof, bouncing off the windows. It was probably for me the worst weather I have had to drive in. Semis were pulling over to the side and I quickly realized how slippery the interstate had become with all the hail on it. I was not inclined to stop on the side of the road, my thought was to just get the heck out of there and hopefully out of the storm's path. Within less than 5 miles we were out of the worst of it. Phew! No bueno.
So here we are, safe and dry, inside but we are under a severe thunderstorm warning again! Honestly I can't complain. We have had fantastic luck with the weather this whole trip. We don't leave here until Friday and we will be heading west, so hopefully we will miss any more of the nasty stuff.
So here are some pics of Old Mesilla, quaint little village, established in 1838. Mesilla was a stage stop for the Butterfield line that ran from St. Louis to San Diego from 1858 to 1862.
Billy the Kid also stood trial in Mesilla and that building, the jail/courthouse, is now a souvenir shop. The restaurant we ate in was the oldest building in Mesilla.

October 20, 2015 Deming, New Mexico
Travel day! We packed up this morning and when I got the signal from Gary I went to work doing my inside job of "charging" the toilet (a very important job I might add). I went to turn the water pump on and nothing happened! Yikes - not a good thing! So we pulled out the manuals and then phoned Newmar. After getting the word from Newmar that they have had "trouble" with the controller that is connected to the water pump and being given some instructions on how to test for that - Gary got to work. Unfortunately we quickly realized this was a job that was over our heads and we elected to continue packing up and moving on. As long as we have water on board and we get to a site that has water for us to use, we are good to go. We will get it looked at with we arrive home. Newmar did say that if it is the controller it will be replaced at no charge. Good to know!
So we headed south on Interstate 25 and then cut west on State Route 26. I am so enamored with these skies and clouds. So that's all I have for you today people. My goal is to paint some of these, someday, so I need a lot of pics! HaHa - lofty goal I know.
Oh and yes we have been under a severe thunderstorm warning most of the day. We arrived here in Deming in a pouring rain and hail. Fun times
